Marching Band auditions are usually held in March, with rehearsals beginning in April.  The auditions and practices take place at Calvary Baptist Church. A summer Marching Band camp is also offered at a minimal cost, usually off-site to provide practice in field marching.  Students auditioning should have at least 2 years of experience on their instrument. 

Those auditioning should prepare a 1 minute piece to play and be prepared to sight read a small piece provided by the director.  Auditions will determine placement  - 1st trumpet, 2nd trumpet etc.  Percussion may opt to audition multiple items.  Bass, quad or snare.

Marching Band tuition is $265 and covers instruction and uniform items.  Tuition for students opting to join the marching band without enrolling in any other Grace Notes classes is $365 per year.

STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: Instrument, uniform, physical ability to participate in marching.

Flag Corp and Marjorettes

Girls ages 9 and up! 

Majorettes

Majorettes are members of the marching band with special talents and abilities. There is no set number of positions available, so several persons or no one could be chosen based on the results of the try-outs. You must already possess the skills necessary to become a member either through private lessons or an active twirling group outside of school. Pre Try-outs and Try-outs will follow the same schedule as Flag Corps auditions. If you do not make the cut for majorette, you are welcome and encouraged to audition for the Flag Corps.

 

Flag/Dance Corps

The Flag Corps provides a backdrop or picture frame which normally surrounds the band and adds color and motion to the music. As such, there must be a minimum of four students making the auditions in order for us to have a Flag Corps. If fewer than four people make the cut, then there will be no Flag Corps for that year. We do not expect you to have prior experience and will teach you the basics during the Pre try-outs.

 

Try-outs will consist of a prepared routine with music, a taught routine, demonstration of basic marching skills, and a personal interview. Please have a pre-recorded selection and routine ready (CD player will be provided).
